Das Bundesamt für Wirtschaft und Ausfuhrkontrolle (BAFA) ist eine Bundesoberbehörde im Geschäftsbereich des Bundesministeriums für Wirtschaft und Technologie (BMWi). In den Bereichen Außenwirtschaft, Wirtschaftsförderung und Energie nimmt es wichtige administrative Aufgaben des Bundes wahr. Eine Kernaufgabe des Amtes ist die im Bereich Außenwirtschaft angesiedelte Ausfuhrkontrolle. Eingebunden in die Exportkontrollpolitik der Bundesregierung wirkt das BAFA als Genehmigungsbehörde in enger Kooperation mit anderen Bundesbehörden an einem komplexen Exportkontrollsystem mit. Die Ausfuhrkontrollen orientieren sich im Rahmen internationaler und gesetzlicher Verpflichtungen am Sicherheitsbedürfnis und außenpolitischen Interesse der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

Im Energiesektor setzt das BAFA Fördermaßnahmen zur stärkeren Nutzung erneuerbarer Energien, zur Energieeinsparung und für den deutschen Steinkohlebergbau um und wirkt an der Krisenvorsorge im Mineralölbereich mit.

The Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) is a superior federal authority subordinated to the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi).
It is entrusted with important administrative tasks of the federal government in the following sectors

A central task of BAFA in the foreign trade sector is export control. Being involved in the export control policy of the federal government, BAFA is a licensing authority working in close co-operation with other federal agencies on a complex export control system.
